To your eyes unimpressive,
To your ears muffled, still,
To your heart plain, ordinary,
To your mind senseless, dull
To your hands rough, uneven,
To your feet clumsy, inept,
To your soul foolish, imprudent,
To your spirit disordered, unkempt
But there is a part that remains unseen –
Fact the surface cannot reveal
A place no one can rightly judge –
The real, authentic me
To His eyes beautiful, pleasing,
To His ears forceful, pure,
To His heart remarkable, amazing,
To His mind intelligent, shrewd
To His hands soft, flexible,
To His feet ordered, steered,
To His soul wise, unstoppable,
To His spirit disciplined, renewed
The oustide foggy with smoke and screens
Rarely discloses truth,
So treat with kindness and dare not judge –
Only He knows what lies beneath.
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” – 1 Samuel 16:7 (NIV)

Amen, so true.
Oh this is heart rending Deidra..."only He knows what lies beneath" our fog and smoke screens.
smiles...a simple truth we often forget...our maker sees with eyes so different than we...
Deidra, I have become one of your biggest fans. And this SO speaks to me. A week or so ago, I began to feel a little more like me again, and I had that moment of thinking, "it was there all the time". It was just buried. But He knew it was there and was faithful & strong even when I wasn't. And oh I'm so thankful.
Thank you for sharing so transparently from your heart. It's a beautiful thing.
I love that you so gently and efficiently broke through all of our judging tendencies. That you offered the hope that so much is unseen and we are free to rest and be as we are.
YES! this is something God has been whispering to me too, the reminder that He does not see as we see. We see messes He sees the heart, always the heart.
oh friend i LOVED this! so different from your usual style, yet so powerful.
